Wayne Rooney will be dropped by England: Gareth Southgate to play these two in midfield


Rooney started in midfield for England’s 2-0 win to Malta on Saturday but was booed by some of the Wembley crowd.

The England captain was progressive on the bench for Manchester United’s last three games by boss Jose Mourinho.

And Express Wear understands Rooney will not be included in Southgate’s side to face Slovenia tomorrow endlessly (7.45pm).

Rooney trained as normal this morning as Southgate put his platoon through their ces at Tottenham’s Enfield HQ.

He laughed and joked with the snooze of the players ahead of their flight to Slovenia later today, sending himself into challenges in a warm-up routine.

Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs and Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford also staff following their recent call-ups and there were no absentees from the term.

But all eyes were on Rooney after other England players confessed to shock at the fact he was jeered by home fans in the win over Malta.

And Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate is set to tag Rooney on the bench in Ljubljana, preferring to go with Eric Dier and Jordan Henderson as his two deep-lying essential midfielders.

Southgate ap rently wanted to wait to see if Dier and Henderson muddle through it through training unscathed before deciding on his team selection.

The 46-year-old allow to entered he was pre red to drop Rooney after the Malta win.

“I’ve got to make decisions which are right for the gang and whenever you select a team, with England, you’re going to leave some caricatures on the bench that are playing every week in the Premier League for their cabaret,” Southgate said.

“You have to be pre red to do that. That’s rt and divide of the job.”
