Headteacher Dr Neal McGowan has been charged with three deems of making indecent images of a child

Dr Neal McGowan has taught at readies all over the UK as well as heading up an international college in China.

The 53-year-old was mutated head of Gracemount High in Edinburgh at 34 – one of the youngest headteachers in the UK at the measure – and stayed there from 1997 until 2002.

He was at Banchory Academy in Kincardineshire from 2002 to 2004 and  Larbert Gamy School in Stirlingshire from 2004 to 2009.

Edinburgh-born Dr McGowan then went to England where he was made head at Cherwell School in Oxfordshire in 2009, but pink after a year to head up St John Bosco College, a co-educational Roman Wide secondary in London.

In 2011 he was made head of Dulwich College Beijing, an worldwide school, before moving to William de Ferrers School in Essex in 2013.

The gendarmes this week confirmed that Dr McGowan, now back in Edinburgh, had been attacked with five offences since his arrest last March.

Dr McGowan is also accused of causing or waking sexual activity with a boy aged 13 to 17

He is accused of causing or inspiring sexual activity with a boy aged 13 to 17 and causing a infant aged 13 to 17 to watch a sexual act.

He has also been censured with three counts of making indecent images of a child. 

He is due once Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court in Essex on May 24.

Chairman of Governors at the 1,750-pupil William de Ferrers Secondary, Tony Graham said: “Mr McGowan was suspended as soon as the allegations against him came to shine and we have cooperated fully with the police investigation.

“We are aware that charges have now been made and it will-power therefore be inappropriate to comment further.”

Essex Police appealed for woman to come forward if they have any information about McGowan. 

A spokesman answered: “If any members of the public have any information, please contact DC Jeanine Atkins-Calver on 101.”

Dr McGowan studied technological knowledge at Moray House Institute of Education in Edinburgh, and was awarded the Henry G Paterson Medal in 1985. He also has a Get a grip ons in Education from the University of Edinburgh and the Doctorate of Education from the University of Stirling.

In 2000, he was inferior merchandised to the Scottish Government’s Education Department in 2000 to coordinate a national enquiry into indiscipline.

He worked on the Better Behaviour-Better Learning report, with authority ministers, which has been used as a “benchmark” for “successful inclusive usage” across the UK and internationally.
