Donald Trump has pledged to improper stronger economic and diplomatic sanctions on the hermit kingdom as it scrambles to body nuclear weapons.

Speaking from the Pentagon, Mr Mattis implied Washington is working internationally to find a diplomatic solution.

Mr Mattis implied: “We are going to continue to work the issue. If this goes to a military key, it’s going to be tragic on an unbelievable scale.

“So our effort is to work with the UN, stir with China, work with Japan, work with South Korea to try to manage a way out of this situation.”
