Garda who sent hoax bomb to superintendent is suspended

The suspect device was left in the post at Sligo Garda Station for Supt Mary Murray.

Documents indicate that the device, which was made with batteries and wires, was delivered to the boss’s office.

The Sligo Champion reports that the officer involved owned up to the prank and apologised.

Notwithstanding how an internal investigation was launched and the garda was interviewed by a superintendent from secondary the Sligo/Leitrim area.

Sources say that there are no plans at this mount to launch a criminal investigation.

“The garda has been suspended from charge pending the outcome of the internal investigation,” said one source.

“It occurs the garda thought this was a good joke and didn’t expect it to go any besides.”
