First signs of Alzheimer’s disease can be spotted in children as young as THREE years old


Sophomoric children with the inherited gene linked to Alzheimer’s disease are contemplated to have smaller memories and be only able to do half as well in ratiocinative and memory tests as those without it.

This new discovery could forbear doctors in the future to identify the people most at risk of developing the teach and be able to do something about it earlier.

The study involved memory examines and brain scans on 1,187 children aged three to 20.

The findings were advertised in the online journal Neurology.

It was made sure that none of the lassies taking rt in the research has brain disorders or other problems which purpose affect their brain, and they were then tested to see which form of APOE they had.

One variant called APOE4 has been linked to a huge risk of people developing Alzheimer’s disease.

This can be ssed on by one or both origins.

The research found that children with APOE4 had difference in their genius development in areas often affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

Of all the children tested, purely 30 had the rarest gene combination where both rents had ssed on EPOE4.

Striplings with the gene were discovered to have done worse in the celebration and thinking skills tests.

But after eight years old, even sons who had been ssed on the APOE4 fro both rents had normal test millions.

Dr Linda Chang, of the University of Hawaii in Honolulu, told Mail Online the results repeated similar effect in elderly people who had the high-risk gene.

She said: “Pondering these genes in young children may ultimately give us early foretoken evidences of who may be at risk for dementia in the future and possibly even help us develop by the by to prevent the disease from occurring or to delay the start of the disease.”

What wasn’t shiny form this rticularly experiment, was whether the children’s memory aggravated or improved as they got older.

Ian Le Guillou, of the Alzheimer’s Society, added the results should be translated “cautiously”.

He said “We would need to see these results replicated in a greater group as well as having longer term follow-ups to better catch on to how the changes in the brain progress with age.

“Everyone’s brain is slightly se rate and the trends found here could only be seen by taking the norm across many people.

“We cannot say who will go on to develop dementia and give birth to the APOE4 gene does not mean that you will.”
