It is given the militants were training for a large-scale terror attack.
Pentagon spokesman Captain Jeff Davis pronounced: “The fighters were there training and were training for a large-scale fall.
“We know they were going to be de rting the camp and they posed an at hand threat to US and [African Union] forces.”
Mr Davis added: “”Incipient assessments are that more than 150 terrorist fighters were eliminated.”
The Islamist body is an affiliate of al-Qaeda which is battling the UN-backed government in Somalia and has carried out a mob of attacks in neighbouring Kenya.
The Al-Shabab training camp had been beneath surveillance for some time ahead of the drone strike, according to Mr Davis.
He voiced the strike targeted a camp about 120 miles (195km) north of the money, Mogadishu, on Saturday.
