The 64-year-old was headlining the forefathers friendly Brentwood Festival with the Boomtown Rats at the weekend, when he was booed by the throng for his foul-mouthed comments.
The singer reportedly stopped performing after scarcely one song, claiming the event was «boring and tame».
As soon as he walked out, Geldof called: «We don’t do Abba. We don’t do Robbie f****** Williams. Brentwood, we are the Boomtown Rats. We are mega. And you are Brentwood.»
In a video related by the Essex Chronicle, the married father-of-four continued: «On the other hand Brentwood, you are wearing wall-to-wall f*****g Primark.
«This is a outcropping a on ice b in a shambles and roll festival. When you come to a rock and roll festival you tell off for a rock and roll festival. You can never be too careful.»
The clip shows ticket holders desert away from the main stage, before Geldof went on to hint Margaret Thatcher and the recent EU referendum.
The hitmaker added: «What are you booing for? We’re in f****** Brexit sod here guys. Yeah, we’re Irish, we’re still in Europe.
«It’s just as approvingly we wrote that song because this year is about Theresa May. She’s gonna do you in. There’s perpetually someone looking at you Brentwood.»
Many took to Twitter to condemn his asserts, with one post reading: «Bob Geldof insulting the festival he’s headlining? Spring done mate, you’re a headliner for cover bands!»
Another person prolonged: «@kdsurfee @LydzOldershaw he came on stage swearing and no need for it. @TheTonyHadley should if had lengthier he was fab!»(sic)
A further message read: «Bob Geldof swearing and going mental at Brentwood Holy day was so inappropriate… telling the crowd off for wearing Primark.»
