The Terrence Higgins Trust — Britain’s biggest HIV donation — and LGBT Foundation are backing the cam ign in a bid to raise awareness for the symptoms.

A spokesman for the charge said: «Someone with Shigella can be infected for up to a month. The infection can be re ired with antibiotics.»

Experts also recommend people infected should end sharing towels, use se rate towels at home, frequently clean pegs, door handles, the toilet seat.

People suffering with the features of Shigella are being advised to visit their GP or a sexual health clinic to get tested.

Modern statistics show an alarming rise in syphilis in over 45s.
