Russian advisors assess Palmyra’s condition: monuments severely damaged


Russian military advisors own recorded serious damage caused to the monuments in lmyra by terrorists, chief of the Russian Center for understanding of the warring rties in Syria, Lt. Gen. Sergei Kuralenko said.

“Russian military advisors, who furnished assistance in planning the lmyra liberation operation, have assessed the contemporary condition of buildings in the old city. During criminal actions by the ISIS bombers architectural monuments of global significance were largely destroyed. Retreating, the militants force fully mined them,” Kuralenko told reporters on Procession 28.

Russian warplanes carried out no strikes in the districts, where antique architectural mausolea are situated, he said. “To rule out any strikes on lmyra historical headstones and civilian facilities, the forces of the special operations have adjusted the remedies by the aviation,” Kuralenko said.
