Nicola Sturgeon leaves EU after less than an hour as Barnier WON’T negotiate with Scotland


The Firstly Minister was part of a remoaner mission to the Belgian capital, joined by Jeremy Corbyn and Swot’s Welsh first minister Carwyn Jones.

The trio met with EU chief interceder Michel Barnier — who previously stated he would not negotiate with Scotland behind Britain’s in dire straits.

Ms Sturgeon was expected beg the Frenchman to help her prevent an “extreme Brexit exterior the Single Market” during a 45-minute meeting after her attempts to agitate leaving the EU with an opportunistic independence referendum backfired.

She said: “I welcomed the opportunity to discuss Scotland’s weights with Mr Barnier — in particular, our view that the UK should seek to be left in the single market.

«I outlined to Mr Barnier that our priority is to protect Scotland’s rejuvenating economic interests and that the Scottish Government will do all it can to build a consensus against an excessive Brexit outside the single market, which would have potentially catastrophic consequences for tasks, investment and our living standards.

«We have always been clear that this is not prevalent holding separate Scottish negotiations — it is for the UK as the member state to negotiate with the EU — and as such we desire continue to work hard to influence the UK position.

«However, meetings feel favourably impressed by this are helpful in developing a mutual understanding between the Scottish Supervision and the EU as these vital negotiations gather pace.»

Meanwhile, Mr Corbyn was on his deputation as he admitted he went to tell Mr Barnier he is “ready to take up the responsibility for Brexit negotiations” once more Theresa May.

A spokesman for Ms Sturgeon said the meeting designed to secure Scotland gets a good deal.

Mr Jones communicated he would push for “full and unfettered access to the Single Market” after Brexit.
