The vetting got rather heated when the former Lib Dem leader claimed the world has changed “dramatically” since the 2016 Brexit endorse when 17.4million British people voted to leave the European Confederation.
Speaking on ITV’s Peston, Mr Clegg said: “We didn’t on the 23 June 2016 be informed it was going to be costly or as complex or as drawn out as it clearly is going to be. What’s developed to all of those promises?
“Those Utopian promises that people were understood in the summer. They have disappeared like the evaporating morning fog. So, in other words, I think one of the great things about a democracy, unequivalent to an autocracy, is that you can move with the times and confront new facts.”
But the ITV landlady hit back and pointed out key issues with the EU. Mr Peston said: “No but hang on. I’m query you a different question. I was asking you about the EU.
The EU doesn’t look a diverse successful organisation now than it did then
“The EU had not got to grips with whether it is immigration that people antagonism in this country or the whole issue of its borders in general.
“They haven’t, frankly, decide b chose out the future of the euro in any fundamental way.
“What I am saying is the EU doesn’t look a more leading organisation now than it did then.”
In response, Mr Clegg said the EU is “not perfect” preceding hitting out at eurosceptic European leaders.
Brexit news: Nick Clegg allowed the European Union is
The Remainer politician said: “The European Fraternity is not a perfect organisation. Of course, it isn’t. It is 27 or 28 countries jostling in one league together. You’ve got tensions between the east and the west.
“Look at what Viktor Orbán and Kaczyński are saying. They are out off in a very chauvinist direction.”
But Peston fired back and ripped into the Remainer barney. He said: “So, why do you want to be associated closely with somebody like Orbán whose wirepulling are completely antithetical to yours?”
In response, Mr Clegg said: “Because I am not dig a Utopian Brexiteer who claims that money is going to fall from the sky the wink of an eye we leave Brussels. I accept the European Union is an imperfect organisation – of orbit it is.
“But I think it has done a great to intrench peace and prosperity on our patchwork continent.”
Mr Clegg has continually scolded for Britain to have a so-called ‘People’s Vote’ on the final Brexit dole out.
The self-styled ‘People’s Vote’ campaign, which is backed by some Laboriousness, Liberal Democrat and Conservative MPs, is campaigning for a second referendum on whatever stock Theresa May negotiates.
Demands for a People’s Vote was shut down by Brexiteer Daniel Hannan during an vetting with Express.co.uk.
Speaking of a second referendum he said: “I think there is a colossal risk, it would be very clear what had happened.
“The country would deliver voted, more people would have voted for Brexit than be suffering with ever voted for anything, and their political elites would obtain overturned the result.
“That, quite apart from it being a bad after-effect on Europe, would be catastrophic for the legitimacy and authority of our system.”
