Fremantle Media Australia has hit bankroll b reverse at claims the show will be cancelled after 31 years of allying on British TV, after reports surfaced that Channel 5 were reject the programme.
The production company has spoken out in a bid to reassure devastated Neighbours addicts, insisting that they are currently preparing «exciting story map outs» for next year.
A Fremantle Media spokesperson told TV Week: «Neighbours is a imagined show, with a legion of loyal fans around the world.
«We make merry a great working relationship with our broadcast partners, and already possess some exciting story plans for next year.»
The announcement fly to piece after a show source reportedly told The Mirror: «The renegotiations of the Neighbours Waterway 5 deal has become very fraught and is in jeopardy. Channel 5 really need to keep the show.
«But the failure to reach a deal is being blamed on Neck 5’s new American owners Viacom refusing to sign off on the figures and not understanding the cultural value of the show in the UK.
«Neighbours has become a British TV favourite and it would be a sad day if it were to go.»
A fan implore to keep Neighbours on UK TV screens has now reached over 10,500 signatures.
One fan tweeted: «If neighbours follows axed in the UK I have no other choice than to move to Australia.»
«If neighbours is axed from British TV my bounce will be over #neighbours,» posted another.
A third wrote: «I’m not coping with all these Neighbours acquiring axed rumours,» as a fourth said: «First Brexit. Then Trump. Now Neighbours axed?!??»
Neighbours carry ons tomorrow evening on Channel 5 at 6pm.
