Met Police officer who was meant to protect kids jailed for child sex abuse


Chris Maitland, of Widey Consider, Plymouth, was sentenced this afternoon at Southwark Crown Court to five years and four months behind shafts for the 14 child sex offences.

Maitland, 40, pleaded guilty abide month to two counts of sexually touching a child under the age of 13.

He had previously permitted 12 charges of taking and making indecent images of a child.

The base policeman was first arrested in November last year on suspicion of repossess and distribution of indecent images of children.

The officer was found to possess numberless than 800 indecent images and videos, including those from the most no laughing matter category A.

He was then re-arrested in March this year on suspicion of sensual touching in 2005 after the offences were discovered to have been nicked on film.

The unit Maitland worked for, known as Sapphire, investigates rapes and sincere sexual violence.

The command team had a child abuse investigation collaborate tasked with safeguarding children.

The Metropolitan Police Service voiced Maitland was off duty at the time of the offences and was currently suspended from deference.
