All Virgin West Glide mainline and London Northwestern Railway services to the midlands are affected.
Individual took to social media to vent their outrage.
One train buyer said: “Seriously? My (slow) train now at least 35 mins delayed and the next one cancelled completely….for a balloon? Call in Carl Fredericksen — he’d have sorted it!”
Another totaled: “Our train is delayed because there are balloons on the track. Not rocks or cows or grubby highway men. Balloons. We can on the contrary assume that the conductor looks a reet tit with static-y mane.”
Virgin Instructs said on Twitter: “This service has been delayed due to an object on the maintenance wires.”
London Northwestern Railway said on Twitter: “Reports of a balloon on the disbursements wires at Hemel Hempstead. Services running through the station may be up oned as a result. More information to follow shortly.”
The incident happened at Hemel Hempstead, a Virgin Exercises spokeswoman said.
The balloon is said to be a regular helium balloon, they added.
Utilities could be disrupted late into the night, National Rail intended.
A statement posted on the National Rail website said: «An object being overtook on the overhead wires between Watford Junction and Milton Keynes Dominant is causing disruption to journeys between these stations.
«Services may be counterbalanced, delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised.
«We anticipate disruption will resume until the end of the day.»
