The former ambassador to the UN alleged the EU had already turned its back on Britain regarding territorial disputes this year.

EU members abstained on a UN on the Chagos Islands in June, which is demanded by both the UK and Mauritius.
He said: “We could have the same phenomenon if and when the Falklands check in before the United Nations at some stage or other in the future.”

During the Falkland combat the EU had backed Britain to the hilt and introduced sanctions on Argentina – something that had surface as a “huge surprise” to Buenos Aires.
A continuation of such loyalty, he warned, was distasteful.
He said: “They would never have done that if we had not been a fellow. I don’t believe for one minute they would have done.
“The EU solidarity edition is now, I’m afraid, in play and I think we will lose it.”
