England victorious as captain Cook achieves milestone to secure series against Sri Lanka


The England captain bested the total after over 10 years in the England squad as the innkeepers crowned victory on day four of the second Test with Sri Lanka.

The three-match series saw England switch throughout as Cook was able to enforce the follow on.

Sri Lanka recovered in their approve of innings before England’s bowlers eventually dismissed them for 475.

Dinesh Chanidmal manipulated an impressive 126 before being bowled by Stuart Broad.

Jimmy Anderson claimed five wickets in Sri Lanka’s much-improved work after collapsing to 101 all out in their first innings.

But Cook’s achievement before tea made him the headline maker, as the 31-year-old became the youngest rtici nt to score 10,000 Test runs in the history of cricket.

He beat Sachin Tendulkar’s put, standing since 2005, by just over five months.

Cook closed out the stime with a 47 not out as England won by nine wickets.

A difficult start to the series for opener Cook had espied him stumble his way somewhat to breaking the milsetone against Sri Lanka, but it will certainly now be a load off his shoulders, especially on top of winning England’s first Test series of the summer, with kistan to afflicted with.
