Following the de rture of popular hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May terminal year, Top Gear has struggled to gain viewers, while hosts Evans and Matt le Blanc make become tangled in a number of gaffes.
Last spring, Le Blanc was cuttingly criticised for filming manoeuvres in front of the Cenotaph memorial, a stunt which Evans was laboured to apologise for.
Today, Evans announced on Twitter: “Stepping down from Top Machinery. Gave it my best shot but sometimes that’s not enough. The team are beyond competent, I wish them all the best.”
The future of the show’s other hosts, involving Le Blanc, is currently uncertain.
