At almost 3.30pm on Monday, members of the Border Hunt heard banging from the parked-up Mercedes Vito which had been Nautical port in West Woodburn, Northumberland.
Northumbria Police said: «The man was found with some links to his ankles and wrists but was in a confused state and unable to say how this had happened.»
The 29-year-old signified he could recall nothing after 2.30pm on New Year’s Day when he was street in the Durham area, more than 40 miles from where he was build.
His purple van, registration NJ54VFB, was spotted travelling north on the A1 at 6.15am on Monday.
The van was not damaged, had not been in a smash-up, and is being forensically examined.
The man, from the Durham area, was checked up in sickbay.
A police spokesman said: «Officers are working with the victim to prove the full circumstances of what has occurred and are keen to speak to anyone who may be capable to help police with their inquiries.»
